Nothing like a semi-clean slate to start on . . .
unfortunately it took me a little over two months between entries this last time . . .
and now, without further adieu . . .
a new entry. . .
so i am a sinner . . .
in case you ever were silly enough to think otherwise . . .
i have struggles like maybe you wouldn't believe . . .
and yet, when i think back on my life and actions i've taken . . .
i have to correct myself from thinking i've done alright . . .
i have failed in the worst of ways, up there with the best of them . . .
but the difference is, i managed to stop myself from conspicuous sinning through the years . . .
and somehow that makes it right . . .
but, i'm starting to see more and more clearly . . .
sin is much more than actions . . .
if sin were only actions, i could easily curtail them and clean up my act, so to speak . . .
i wouldn't need outside intervention . . .
but i obviously did need intervention . . .
thus sins run far deeper than an exterior showing . . .
Jesus made it pretty clear that your sins are closly tied to your thoughts . . .
".. If you look upon a woman lustfully, you have committed adultry .."
".. If you harbor hate against your brother, you have already committed murder .."
and so on . . .
so therein lies the challenge of life . . .
how do you control your thoughts? . . .
can you control your thoughts? . . .
i struggled with that for a long time . . .
and now it's hit me . . .
surprise of all surprises . . .
the answer to the dilemna is in the Bible . . .
and the key to controlling your thoughts IS the Bible . . .
to some extent . . .
you remember that verse "whatsoever is good, pure, etc . . .
. . . think on these things" . . . ?
and the many psalms that mention meditating on scripture night and day . . .
here's the thing . . .
if you're meditating on scripture all the time, there's no room for impure thoughts . . .
(unless you're meditating on the David and Bathsheeba story all day long i guess) . . .
anyway . . .
that's the trick . . .
read the Bible more . . .
commit it to memory . . .
think about what it says . . .
that's a start . . .
next time . . .
i'll tackle the inherency of sin in man . . .
